University of Victoria student-athletes will soon receive this year’s Greater Victoria Sports Hall of Fame awards.

Anais Chace, Sadie Schneider and Adrianna Hilton are all first-year athletes and are being honoured for their exceptional contributions to Greater Victoria sports.

Chace, a women’s field hockey goalkeeper, is receiving the Bate Family Greater Victoria Sports Hall of Fame Award, which celebrates a UVic varsity athlete coming from a secondary school in Greater Victoria.

Chace, an Oak Bay High School alumna, started every game for the Vikes during the 2023-24 season. She was named the Canada West and U SPORTS player of the week for her performance during the conference championship this past October.

“We are extremely proud to learn that Anais has been chosen as the recipient of the Bate Family Award,” UVic women’s field hockey head coach Krista Thompson said in a news release.

“Anais is an amazing young woman who makes a positive impact both on and off the field. Anais finished our Canada West season strong by posting four straight shutouts in our final four games, helping guide our team to their fifth consecutive Canada West title. She was also instrumental in securing UVic’s fifth consecutive U SPORTS championship.”

Hilton, a women’s soccer defender and Stelly’s Secondary School graduate, is this year’s Simon Keith Greater Victoria Sports Hall of Fame Award recipient. This award goes to a local UVic varsity athlete, whose life has been directly impacted by an organ donation.

Hilton helped the Vikes reach the conference playoffs and earned a place on the Canada West All-Rookie team. Her family has been impacted by an organ donation.

“Adrianna came into the season very fit and started every game as a rookie, filling the shoes of Vikes alumna Dari Cote in the left back position,” said Tracy David, Vikes women’s soccer head coach.

“She is a compassionate, empathetic individual and an all-around wonderful and kind person to have in a team setting. As one of our soccer camp instructors, she is reliable and accountable, and I really can’t say enough good things about Adrianna.”

Schneider, a standout on UVic’s top-tier women’s rugby program, is receiving the Sybil Verch Greater Victoria Sports Hall of Fame Award. This award honours a female UVic varsity athlete who attended a secondary school in Greater Victoria.

Schneider attended Esquimalt High School and is now a kinesiology student, who said she selected UVic as her top university of choice because of its commitment to fostering a diverse and inclusive community.

“Sadie is a hard-working athlete who continuously brings a positive attitude to the field and has immense potential as a student-athlete,” said UVic women’s rugby head coach Brittany Waters. “She is dedicated to the sport of rugby and has been recognized for her efforts provincially and nationally at the age group levels. Sadie always has a smile on her face and brings an infectious energy to the team.”

Award recipients are also chosen based on their work ethic, commitment and performance.
