Saanich police chief named Officer of Merit
Saanich police Chief Const. Mike Chadwick was named an Officer of Merit at Rideau Hall in Ottawa Wednesday morning, recognizing his devotion to the community.
Chadwick was among 34 police and RCMP officers from across the country who received an Order of Merit from Gov. Gen. David Johnston.
“You are here not by accident, but because you have stood out as willing to go beyond the call of duty, to think differently about the work that you do and to show compassion for the community,” Johnston said.
“You have contributed so much to Canadian policing throughout your careers and have shown others not only how to work smarter, but also that you are devoted to caring for others.”
Saanich Mayor Frank Leonard, who chairs the police board, said nominating Chadwick for the award was in recognition of his “long-standing commitment to our community, and an unblemished record of a really high standard of policing.”
Chadwick has been with the Saanich police department for 36 years.
“I think all of Saanich could be very, very proud that their chief constable is worthy of such recognition,” Leonard added.
