New director of finance for Saanich

Valla Tinney, currently the director of corporate services with the Town of Sidney, was appointed last week as Saanich’s director of finance.

“I think Saanich just has a positive culture, and the people that I know that work there really care about serving the community and doing good work,” she said.

Saanich born and raised, Tinney is a certified general accountant and earned a business diploma from Camosun College.

She has also worked for the Esquimalt and View Royal municipalities.

“I’m really excited to join the Saanich team, and I’m very happy that they want to have me,” she said.

Tinney replaces Paul Murray, who was promoted to municipal administrator in June after chief administrative officer Tim Wood retired. Tinney begins her new job Aug. 7.
