Record time for police to recover stolen truck

A Saanich couple was awoken at 3 a.m. Monday to the sound of their truck starting up in their driveway and then driving away. They immediately called Saanich police and reported the vehicle stolen.

Ten minutes later, an officer spotted the truck heading southbound on Blanshard Street towards Victoria. The officer followed the vehicle and was quickly joined by Victoria officers.

The two jurisdictions pulled the truck over near Douglas Street and Hillside Avenue and arrested a 32-year-old Saanich man.

He faces charges of theft, possession of stolen property and driving while prohibited.

The truck was returned to the owner, in the 3100-block of Earl Grey St., undamaged.
