Saanich police nabbed a chronic offender early Thursday morning for stealing from vehicles on Kimberly Place.

An alert Kimberly Place resident called police at 2 a.m. after seeing a man go into his neighbours vehicle.

Police found the suspect hiding in nearby bushes, and soon found electronic items, such as vehicle GPS devices. Officers believe the items were stolen from vehicles left unlocked.

People missing items from the their vehicles from the night of Aug. 22 or 23 August and live in the area bounded by Douglas Street near the Pat Bay Highway, McKenzie Avenue and Quadra Street, can contact Saanich police at 250-475-4321, and refer to SPD No. 12-17220.

Also on Thursday, a resident in the 2900-block of Millgrove St. called the Saanich police after witnessing a lone male attempting to break into their neighbours shed in the middle of the afternoon.

Based on the detailed description provided by the witness, officers were able to locate the suspect a short distance away.

A 50-year-old Victoria man is facing charges of attempted break and enter, and possession of stolen property.

Saanich police say they appreciate the active role the witness took in calling police and providing the information needed to apprehend the suspect.
