Fire damages UVic dorm

A dorm fire at the University of Victoria left one student relocated and $15,000 in damages to a residence and its contents over the weekend.

Just before noon on Sunday, the Saanich fire department responded to the call at 1900 Finnerty Rd., Hugh Stephen Hall, where thick black smoke was emanating from a ground floor residence window.

A 14-firefighter crew quickly extinguished the blaze. It was contained to the single room and no injuries were reported.

Investigators have yet to determine the cause of the fire.
