The B.C. Coroners Service has confirmed the identity of a woman who died after being struck by a vehicle in Saanich on Sunday.
Betty Gum Ying Chan, 88, of Saanich was walking northbound on Tyndall Avenue about 2:45 p.m. when she was struck by an out-of-control vehicle heading northbound near the intersection of Ash Avenue.
Chan was transported by ambulance to Victoria General Hospital for treatment, but succumbed to her injuries a short time later, said coroner Barb McLintock.
The driver of the vehicle, a 43-year-old Saanich woman, was also transported to hospital with minor injuries. It is not yet known if the crash was the result of mechanical failure or a medical incident.
The coroner and Saanich Police Department are working in conjunction to investigate the incident, and Chan's family has requested privacy while they mourn.
