The Sooke School District has confirmed that the lock down at Edward Milne Community School has been lifted.

The school entered what they call a ‘hold and secure’ status at about 11:30 a.m.

District spokesperson Stephanie Sherlock said the security status was implemented in response to communication with the Sooke RCMP.

The RCMP detachment had received a complaint that a male was possibly planning a ‘serious incident’ at the community school and decided to implement the hold and secure proceedure at EMCS until they could ensure that there was no longer a threat.

“The doors were locked, and all the students were safe inside the school,” Sherlock said.

No one was allowed to enter or leave the building during the lock down.

Sooke RCMP, partnered with the Victoria police and the West Shore RCMP, located the suspect who was arrested and remains in custody.

It was only then that the hold and secure was lifted.

“This incident was resolved quickly and safely due to the quick actions of the faculty at Edward Milne Community School, the school district and our partners at Victoria Police and the West Shore RCMP Detachment,” Sooke RCMP detachment commander, Staff Sergeant Brett Sinden said.

The investigation into the incident continues and the RCMP has declined to issue any addtional information at this time.
