Fire causes $100,000 in damages near Mount Doug

Saanich Fire responded to a report of a house fire at 2:15 a.m. this morning in the 1500-block of Eric Rd. near Mount Douglas Cross Road.

“Upon arrival, the first crew witnessed smoke and flame coming from the back of the structure,” said Saanich Fire Capt. Kraig Devlin. “The two occupants of the home were woken by the fire and escaped through a bedroom window. At this time, it is undetermined if smoke alarms were working within the home.”

An interior attack quickly extinguished the fire.

The cause of the fire is not known at this time and is under investigation. Smoke and fire damage to the structure is approximately $100,000.

Nineteen firefighters responded to the incident with two engine companies, two ladder companies and a rescue truck.

Saanich Police, B.C. Hydro and B.C. Ambulance Service also attended to provide assistance.
