Neighbourhood residents gathered Thursday as a house at 1044 Hampshire Rd. headed out of town.

One onlooker said he did not mind the move out of Oak Bay, “as long as it fits into the new neighbourhood it’s going to.”

He added, “It will be interesting to see what they put in its place because this one fits nicely. Nowadays, people put modern houses in and they don’t fit in.”

A resident of Windsor Road is glad to see the house preserved. “It’s nice to see them saving these old houses instead of just taking them down.”

Nickel Brothers’ Jim Connelly said the house will be held in Sidney until it is relocated. A driver and crew towed the building down McNeill Avenue to be barged to Sidney.

“It’s a good house, a character house that’s been upgraded,” Connelly said.
