No break-ins yet this holiday season, but lock up just in case

The holiday season is an enticing time for would-be thieves looking for presents left in vehicles, but according to Central Saanich Police and Sidney North Saanich RCMP, there have been no reports of thefts from inside cars for quite some time.

“We had a rash of them in the summer and I think it was the same guy or guys doing it,” said Central Saanich Police spokesperson Cpl. Dan Cottingham, “but we haven’t had any for a couple months now.”

Cpl. Chris Manseau of Sidney North Saanich RCMP said that Sidney was “sort of funny because it goes through fits and spurts” of vehicle break-ins, but he could not recall any in recent memory.

However, Manseau said that his refrain remains the same throughout the year: lock your car, lock your house, and keep valuables out of sight.

“The precautionary measures make all the difference in the world for those sorts of things,” said Manseau.
