A new experience is in store for visitors to SaanichNews.com.

The newspaper has completed an update of its website to improve the digital experience of our readers while maintaining our twice-a-week print edition.

“The staff here at the Saanich News is embracing the technology that will help us to better tell the stories of our community,” said Saanich News editor Dan Ebenal. “Our readers want to know what’s happening in their community. This new site allows us to bring them stories about their friends and neighbours even quicker, while also helping keep them connected to news across the province and beyond.”

The Home screen features all of the day’s top stories from Saanich, as well as provincial and national stories that will be of interest to our readers. Further down the page you will find more local articles, followed by sections devoted to Video, News, Sports, Community, Entertainment and Opinion. There is also a section for Most Read articles, allowing you to see what the community is talking about, a link to the e-Edition of the latest print edition, as well as The Buzz, a section focused on stories you’ll likely hear around the water cooler. The sections can also be accessed from the main drop-down menu in the top left corner of the menu bar.

The site also expands our ability to let our readers share their experiences with their neighbours. The Contact feature allows you to submit news tips, photos and videos that you want to share with the community.

“Your Saanich News team is committed to supporting the needs of all our Saanich stakeholders including readers and advertisers by connecting them to their community any time and on any platform,” said News publisher Oliver Sommer.

“In particular we are excited that our new mobile, desktop and tablet solutions allows you to more easily connect with us and I encourage everyone to share story ideas, submit video and photos.”

We’re interested to hear what you think about the new website. Send your comments to editor@saanichnews.com.
