LETTER: Decisive action needed on Oak Bay deer population

I want to thank the mayor and council for the hard work and effort each of you put into the community. I am loath to add to your plate, but the increased Oak Bay deer population is a severe accident waiting to happen.

I want to thank the mayor and council for the hard work and effort each of you put into the community. I am loath to add to your plate, but the increased Oak Bay deer population is a severe accident waiting to happen.

From cyclists being bumped off their bikes to the children being chased it is only a matter of time until a human fatality occurs. It will be a sad day when this happens, but it will happen and as leaders in the community preventative action should be taken to avoid a fatality. Some have suggested the municipality could be held liable given the inaction of past council to effectively handle the issue.

I invite council and the mayor be courageous and take decisive action. Birth control is really not the issue, trapping and relocation or a cull is necessary. The do nothing or study the issue further is the easy answer. However as several civic leaders have indicated they have been elected to make the tough decisions.

The loudest voice is not always the most correct. Please use your prudent judgment to do what is needed.
