LETTER: Saanich can’t afford golden severance packages

We are once again agog at the policies of a human resource department of government. It is true that Stanch is not the only preposterous operation in our region that operates with countless financial benefits for some that would never be committed to in the private sector.

We are once again agog at the policies of a human resource department of government. It is true that Stanch is not the only preposterous operation in our region that operates with countless financial benefits for some that would never be committed to in the private sector.

When we elected Mayor Atwell it was our hope that this gravy train would be at least slowed.

As the real employer of these people we would like to suggest that a professional company be hired to do a complete review of our city’s human resource policies and practices. It appears, as is often the case with public sector boards of directors, decisions are made that do not take into account the bottom line since there rarely seems to be a bottom line.

It is time to review how we do things.

Retiring voluntarily with a payout then returning to the same position at an even higher pay grade should be a fantasy, not a common practice.
