The Mayor’s Annual Charity Golf Tournament at the Westin Bear Mountain Golf Resort and Spa was a success before the first ball was hit.

In the past, the tournament was held on one of Bear Mountain’s courses, but to celebrate the City of Langford’s 25th anniversary, Mayor Stew Young wanted to do it big and use both the valley and mountain courses.

Funds raised go towards a list of local charities, non-profit organizations and community groups including KidSport, Kid Assist, Keep Girls in Sports, Wounded Warriors, and the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 91.

Thursday’s tournament brought out 296 golfers this year. Young noted it’s the biggest fundraiser for charities in the community and it’s powerful what people can do when they work together.

“It’s all about you guys, showing up, supporting my staff and my council, Bear Mountain, all the volunteers today,” said Young in a speech before the shotgun start.

“Thank you very much for coming out, taking a great day off, no rain, go out there and have some fun.”

The event concluded with a banquet dinner and an awards presentation.
