Greater Victoria homes new and renewed on display

21st annual Home Renovation Tour returns

From a 10-hectare vineyard to an updated bathroom, Greater Victoria home design ideas are on display at an upcoming event.

The 21st annual Home Renovation and Design Tour takes visitors through 16 houses in the region to show off reno ideas.

“We have about 1,000 people come out to view the homes,” said Bill Okell, media co-ordinator and committee member with the Christian youth organization that benefits from the event.

“This is a social outing for them. They just want to poke around and see what others are doing with their home renos.”

Proceeds from the “passport-style” tickets to the tour go to Young Life Victoria, which runs youth programs and camps for local kids.

Attendees can decide to see only renovated rooms, or view completely remodelled, or even new, houses.

And while it can be tough on homeowners to have thousands of feet traipse through their house for a weekend, “in 99.99 per cent of the cases, we have people come back and say, ‘Can we put our home back on the tour again?’ and we have to say, ‘No, not unless you change it again.’”

The event happens April 16 and 17. Tickets are $25.
