St. Luke’s Anglican Church is hosting an informal evening of crafts, food and song for anyone interested in Christianity – but not necessarily Sunday services.
The church, located at 3821 Cedar Hill Cross Rd., kicks off “Messy Church” today (Jan. 21). The event is aimed at attracting new and existing parishioners who seek a less-traditional means of worship during the week.
The idea of an evening devoted to creative activities for all ages, music, dinner and an informal service originated in England.
Holding the event during the week provides an opportunity for families whose weekends are already booked up, said Messy Church organizer, Barb Prescott.
“They say Messy Church is a fresh expression of the Christian Church that draws people of all ages together, no matter their background or how messy their lives are,” Prescott added.
Messy Church will regularly take over St. Luke’s church hall from 3 to 7 p.m. on the third Friday of every month, with the next event slated for Feb. 18. There is no cost and dinner is provided following a short service led by Rev. Peter Parker.
