Music, food served during LifeCycles event

A fundraiser tomorrow (March 3) features dancing, eight musical acts and eats produced from locally sourced foods.

Know Your Food, Love Your Island is a benefit concert at the Victoria Event Centre, 1415 Broad St. All proceeds going to the LifeCycles Project, which harvests food from people’s backyards and runs education programs to encourage urban food production.

“It is the non-profit in Victoria dedicated to cultivating awareness in Greater Victoria around food,” said Scott Kelly of the Homegrown Collective, one of the groups hosting the concert. Video clips on food security and other local food production issues will be shown.

Eats by the Island Chefs’ Collaborative, Nourish Cafe, Vibrance Catering and VidaGrains will be for sale, with all proceeds going to LifeCycles. Suggested donations for tickets are based on ability to pay, but LifeCycles is asking for anywhere from $15 to $100. They’re available at Shift Natural Fashions, 547 Johnson St., or online at www.homegrowncollective.ca.
