Oak Bay Bicycles (OBB) weekly Saturday ride comes with a twist this week – a goal of cycling with more than 800 pounds of food for the Mustard Seed.

The Victoria Wheelers cycling club is calling on their members to join their Wheelers Backpack Challenge. The plan is for everyone to meet at Oak Bay Bikes Victoria at 9 a.m. (Dec.9) with a bike and a backpack full of food items and then to ride together to Willows Beach park where the donations will be dropped off. From there the group will continue on with the remainder of the regular ride.

The idea stems from a challenge given to the Wheelers by another local cycling team. For the last few years, cycling team Tripleshot have organised a similar ride, last year collecting over 800 lbs of food items. This year they have challenged the Wheelers to surpass that amount.

“This is just the beginning,” says Wheelers member and ride organizer Stéphane Tran. “We hope to do more of these.”
