Punny photo contest helping transition house

Find yourself a pun-inspired getup and get photographed for charity

Psychiatric nurse Glenda Steffler and photographer husband, Steve, are fundraising for Victoria Women’s Transition House with a unique photo shoot.

Call it charades with costumes. Participants pay $20 to have their photos taken in garb that helps depict a pun – defined as “the humorous use of a word or phrase as to suggest a different meaning or application.”

The photos will be compiled in a book. Proceeds from its sales go to Transition House. Entry fees will also be donated to the shelter, which provides counselling and temporary housing for abused women. “People who are in situations of violence need humour,” Glenda says.

Risqué costumes are not appropriate, she adds. The first session is Sept. 18. For more information about the contest go to www.punphotos.com.
