For the Saanich News

I was given a tour of the PISE gym at Camosun College on Interurban last week. What a fabulous facility that is used for training amateur to elite athletes right here in Saanich.

Of course what caught my eye at the entrance was the fabulous architecture the building boasts. The big beautiful windows, the unique angled upper walls, and of course the fabulous use of colour both in the interior and on the exterior.

The architecture firm that designed it specializes in sports facilities and certainly created a very stimulating and exciting building.

The exterior panels are a warm colour palette of orange, brick and dark melon that bounce with energy, contrasting the lighter and darker greys of the main building. These panels also jump alongside the black window trim and dark glass.

I love how these panels are random in sequence, having no particular pattern. Not too many buildings can pull off this bold exterior colour scheme but this building is perfectly balanced in its asymmetry.

On the rear side of the building, even the bright blue running track and the vivid green soccer turf are energy inducing. Makes me want to start running around it.
