Saanich is rolling out information for residents wanting to learn more about the district's bylaws on small-scale multi-unit housing (SSMUH).
Wondering how many units you can build, what type, and where? Get your questions answered at the upcoming virtual information sessions. Saanich staff will explain the new zoning bylaw amendments for SSMUH, and offer residents tools and resources to help determine what they can build on their property.
The SSMUH zoning bylaw amendments allow 3, 4, or 6 units, without a rezoning, on residential lots within the Urban Containment Boundary depending on lot size and location. Parcels with 4 units or fewer are exempt from requiring a form and character development permit. Saanich now also allows both a secondary suite and a garden suite on the same property, allows more than one secondary suite per lot (maximum one secondary suite per primary dwelling unit), and has removed the owner occupancy requirement for secondary suites and garden suites.
These new opportunities comply with provincial housing direction and set Saanich on a path toward creating more housing supply and choice to meet people’s needs.
Virtual information sessions are set for Thursday, Nov.14, 2024, with an afternoon session from noon to 1:30 p.m. as well as an evening session from 7 to 8:30 p.m. To register, or for more information about small-scale multi-unit housing, visit Saanich.ca/SSMUH.
