Tea tasting celebrates new novel this weekend

The event is inspired by author Lisa See’s newest novel The Tea Girl of Hummingbird Lane

Tea lovers are in for a treat as Russell Books and Silk Road Tea are partnering to host a tea tasting this weekend.

Taking place in historic Chinatown, the event will offer participants a chance to taste and learn more about Pu-erh’ tea and others that are featured in author Lisa See’s newest novel, The Tea Girl of Hummingbird Lane. The novel incorporates the history of the Akha people in China, and Pu-erh’ tea farming and customs to tell a story about a family separated by circumstances, culture and distance.

Participants will also experience traditional methods of tea preparation.

The tasting takes place this Sunday (June 25) from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. at Silk Road Tea (1624 Government St.). Tickets are $25 and can be purchased at Russell Books. For more information call 250-461-4447 or email events@russellbooks.com.
