UVic offering seniors free course on computers

JAn. 14 course will cover Facebook, Twitter, social media, Microsoft Word and more

The University of Victoria’s Computer Science Department is inviting seniors to attend a series of free courses to help build confidence about the digital world.

The sessions are designed for seniors (60 or older) with little or no prior experience with computers. The sessions will cover Facebook, Twitter and the concept of social media, Microsoft Word and digital productivity, and more.

Each session will have a component on online privacy and outline steps to stay secure in the online world. A short question period will be held at the end of each session, if time permits. Organizers welcome suggestions for future content and improvements.

The sessions will be held from 10 to 11:30 a.m. on Jan. 14, and Feb. 11 in the Engineering and Computer Science building, room ECS 258 and ECS 250. Please enter through the north entrance, facing away from Ring Road.

If you would like to volunteer, or for more information about the sessions, please visit csc.uvic.ca/Outreach/csvp.htm.
