Victoria businesses bring back ferris wheel for Lights of Wonder

The ferris wheel returns to downtown Victoria this winter as part of the monthlong Lights of Wonder display.

The ferris wheel returns to downtown Victoria this winter as part of the month-long Lights of Wonder display.

The attraction returns to Centennial Square for the final 12 days of December, the Downtown Victoria Business Association (DVBA) announced Wednesday (Sept. 18)

The business association first brought a ferris wheel to the community hub in 2012, and it became a tradition until 2016. The ride will be free, with charitable donations gratefully accepted on behalf of local nonprofits.

“The business community is excited to invite Victorians to shop, dine, and visit downtown this holiday season. Our team is thrilled to bring back an old favourite, the Ferris wheel, as part of Lights of Wonder this year! Bring the whole family downtown to enjoy the season while supporting local,” DVBA CEO Jeff Bray said in a news release.

The ferris wheel will be ready to ride Dec. 20 to 31 nightly from 4 p.m., weather permitting.

This year, the lights of Lights of Wonder get a grand kickoff, turning on at the end of the Santa Parade on Nov. 30.

The Lights of Wonder transforms Centennial Square into a holiday wonderland with outdoor ligthed outdoor exhibits, interactive light tunnels and a 40-foot decorated tree.

Admission is free and frequently offers live entertainment and a variety of food opportunities.

Cultural groups or musical entertainers looking to perform can apply to online at dvba.ca.
