The Victoria Symphony will perform at this year’s Chorfest at UVic’s Farquhar Auditorium, with the gala concert set for Sunday afternoon.

The Victoria Symphony will join nearly 400 singers from across the province during Chorfest 2017 at the University of Victoria’s Farquhar Auditorium.

Chorfest runs from May 19 to 21, presented by the B.C. Choral Federation, and will feature singers representing more than 100 choirs from around the province. The curtain rises for the gala concert Sunday at 2:30 p.m.

“I am especially pleased to welcome and witness the launch of an entirely new Chorfest stream for young adults,” said BCCF executive director Willi Zwozdesky. “I sincerely hope that the Victoria debut of this program, which was inspired locally by SingYourJoy Young Adult Chorus, will portend a promising future for young adults at BCCF Chorfests to come.”

Chorfest is a longstanding tradition within B.C.’s choral community, which was last held in Victoria in 2006. The event is inclusive to all ages and ability levels, drawing together individual singers from around the province and pairing them with world-class conductors over a three-day period. This experience culminates in the Chorfest gala concert.

Victoria’s Linden Singers and the SingYourJoy Young Adult Chorus will be the host choirs for this year’s event, who will celebrate Canada’s upcoming sesquicentennial with the theme: United In Song – Celebrating Canada’s 150th.

“British Columbia has a rich choral tradition and Victoria boasts the largest number of choirs per capita in the province,” said BCCF president Yaro Woloshyn. “We are proud to host Chorfest this year in celebration of choral singing and Canada’s sesquicentennial.”

Complimentary tickets (with a small service charge) are available online from the UVic Ticket Centre. VIP supporter tickets with priority seating are $60 (with a $45 donation receipt) are available only through the BCCF.
