Saanich jazz fans need to get ready for a big concert later this month.
For the first time, the Saanich-based Sequoia Centre will hold a jazz concert featuring Vancouver singer and pianist Jennifer Scott, with drummer Dave Emery and bassist James Young. This kick-off concert, Jazz at the Sequoia Centre, is the first of a concert series and will benefit the BC Vocalist Society.
Jazz at the Sequoia Centre will be held on Sunday, Sept. 24, 2 to 3:30 p.m., with a cocktail reception beforehand starting at 1 p.m.
“We created this event to provide an opportunity for the public to hear music in this beautiful space and showcase some of the talent we have here in B.C.,” said Maria Manna, event organizer, in a statement. “This will be a remarkable afternoon for our guests with this dynamic trio and a chance for us to support BC Vocalist Society.”
Scott has eight albums to her name and is known for her recordings of pop songs that are unusual to jazz such as “It’s My Party” by Lesley Gore and “Tupelo Honey” by Van Morrison. Emery and Young are based locally in Victoria and play with a variety of jazz ensembles.
A portion of each ticket price will benefit BC Vocalist Society, a provincial organization supporting entertainment professionals in need.
Ticket includes appetizers and a glass of wine or beer. Reception starts at 1 p.m., with the 90-minute show starting at 2 p.m.
The Sequoia Centre is located at 4665 Falaise Dr.
