Victoria writer’s book about aliens, friendship and farts among top titles

Quest-terrestrials Vol. 1 was named to Kirkus Review’s Best Books of 2018

A Victoria writer’s book about aliens, friendship and farts is among the top 100 Indie books this year.

Written and illustrated by Victoria’s Malgosia Krol, Quest-terrestrials Vol. 1 was named in Kirkus Review’s Best Books of 2018.

Published in February, the picture book that celebrates diversity, friendship and self-discovery earned the Kirkus Star. The star is awarded to about 1,000 of the 10,000 books reviewed by the professional reviewers annually. It was also named among the best books of the month in July.

The story follows three Q-ts on an adventure to Earth where they encounter puppies, cotton candy and unicorns. “Though it has supporting themes about friendship and imagination, the biggest appeal here is that it’s just plain fun. Expect plenty of giggles — from children and parents,” says the Kirkus review.

Originally a Kickstarter campaign, Krol self-published the book featuring pencil, watercolour and digital art with FriesenPress.

She’s working on Vol. 2, starting again with a Kickstarter campaign and an expected launch of spring 2019. The second book focuses on how people from around the world manage waste and recycling.
