Saanich art show highlights cherished landmarks

The Celebrating Spaces art show is being held at the Cedar Hill Recreation and Arts Centre within the Cedar Hill Recreation Centre

From now until Sunday, Aug. 25, the Cedar Hill Recreation and Arts Centre in Saanich will host a public exhibition to showcase art that highlight cherished landmarks.

Artists Sharon Lam and Juan Pablo will display their works throughout the exhibition space, which is located inside the Cedar Hill Recreation Centre, for the Celebrating Spaces show.

"Both artists focus on the essence of a place, inviting viewers to appreciate the beauty and transient nature of each moment," Saanich said in a news release. "Celebrating Spaces offers a tribute to the rich tapestry of our world through their unique perspectives.

Pablo draws detailed, black-and-white depictions of buildings and landscapes. The Chilean artists is a trained industrial designer, and his keen eye for details and perspective shines in his work.

“[His] pen and ink work captures the depth of cultured landmarks, revealing their cultural and spiritual significance,” said Saanich.

Lam is an illustrator who began drawing her family's favourite parks, cafes and restaurants when her mother entered hospice care. Around this time, Lam realized that the best times she shared with mother were at spots in Greater Victoria. So she set out to capture these places using digital illustration tools. All of her works boast rich textures and vibrant colours.
