A driver faces several charges, including assaulting an officer, after an early morning impaired stop in Langford on June 7.

West Shore RCMP were called about a woman who had consumed a “large quantity of liquor” before getting into a vehicle and driving away, according to a press release.

Officers stopped the driver shortly after midnight in the 2700-block of Jacklin Road. Police say when she was told she was being investigated for impaired driving, the woman became belligerent and ran away.

After a brief foot chase, the woman bit the officer’s arm during a physical struggle. The woman was arrested for impaired driving, assaulting a police officer and resisting arrest.

A 24-year-old faces charges of impaired driving, refusing to provide a breath sample, obstructing an officer by resisting arrest and assaulting a police officer.

The West Shore RCMP officer received minor injuries in this incident and is expected to fully recover.
