A fake explosive created a stir in Sidney on the weekend.

Sidney/North Saanich RCMP was called Saturday (Aug. 10) around 2:30 p.m. to the 9700-block of Fourth Street for a possible historical military explosive device dropped off at a local thrift store.

Navy explosive experts at Canadian Forces Base Esquimalt arrived around 5:30 p.m. and determined the device was fake.

As a safety precaution, police had evacuated and contained the area while they awaited ordinance personnel from CFB Esquimalt.
