George Nagy from Victoria won $1 million in August playing Lotto Max.

A Victoria football fan put his love for the sport first, deciding to sit down and watch a match despite learning he had just become a millionaire.

“I was at a retailer close to my house when I scanned the ticket,” said George Nagy, about the moment he learned he had won $1 million from the Aug. 20 Lotto Max draw. “I saw the winning amount and went home. I had to process it all. Then I went online and checked the numbers again.”

After the final whistle blew on the football game, Nagy later shared the news with his son and daughter-in-law.

“We had dinner together and then I called my other two sons, and brother after that," said Nagy. "Everyone was in disbelief – there was laughing and crying!”

Nagy plans to celebrate with his family next month. He also intends to travel more, complete home renovations and help his family.

“This is going to change my life. It gives me a chance in the later years of my life to do things I was previously not able to do.”

Nagy purchased his winning ticket at Save-On-Foods on Pandora Avenue.
