Saanich is asking for input on refining the draft Biodiversity Conservation Strategy and draft Urban Forest Strategy.
These documents provide guidance for the future management of the natural environment. Saanich is located within the threatened coastal Douglas fir ecological zone, and there are remnant patches of the Garry oak ecosystem within the district.
The district also has an urban containment boundary that is meant to concentrate development away from sensitive environmental features and rural areas.
These draft documents attempt to guide the protection of local ecosystems while also taking into account other needs such as housing and active transportation.
The district is inviting people to provide feedback via an online questionnaire that will be open until May 24.
There will also be an in-person open house at the Cedar Hill Golf Course in the clubhouse on May 14 from 4:30 to 7 p.m. and and online open house on May 16 from 7 to 8 p.m.
