A $25-million investment in an already usable three-acre property allows Saanich to progress more quickly with its operations centre redevelopment project.
The district purchased 4088, 4094 and 4098 Lochside Dr. to become the new parks operations centre.
“The property we have recently acquired will reduce overall project costs as well as provide additional space for our operations, ensuring a high quality of service is maintained throughout this large redevelopment project,” Mayor Dean Murdock said in a news release.

The property was developed in 2018 with offices, vehicle storage and a mechanic shop already located on site. The site can also be used while the current centre is being redeveloped to temporarily continue operations, resulting in fewer service interruptions and lower costs, the district said.
The current operations centre, formerly called public works, at 1040 McKenzie Ave. has served the community for more than 60 years. The site’s 300-plus staff work on services including water, transportation, parks and solid waste.
The project timeline anticipates construction would begin mid-2026.
