A new pilot project is offering services to Greater Victoria's 50+ Francophone community in an effort to improve their quality of life.
Coordinated by the Societe Francophone de Victoria and funded in part by the Government of Canada's Aging Well at Home initiative, the new program offers varied at-home supports to Francophone residents aged 50 and up.
The program will provide home visits and courtesy calls; help with household chores, renovations and meal preparation; help with community navigation and transportation; and financial assistance for paramedical services.
"Although primarily dedicated to the French-speaking community, the program is also open to English speakers," noted a news release from the society. "This unique program is designed to meet the day-to-day lifestyle needs of people aged 50 and over, offering them personalized support that respects their independence while enhancing their safety and comfort at home."
The society says all services will be provided by qualified volunteers and service providers trained to offer a "caring and respectful" service. Some services will be available on a fee-for-service basis.
