View Royal seeking public feedback on Watkiss Way Park plan

The town is hosting an open house at the development site on Nov. 17

View Royal is hosting an open house to share new information and solicit public feedback about plans to build a new park along the Galloping Goose Trail, near the corner of Watkiss Way and Burnside Road.

Aptly named the Watkiss Way Park, the new development will sit on a 1.5-acre plot. View Royal leased the land from BC Transit, which is building a new handyDART centre at the corner of Watkiss Way and Burnside Road.

According to its latest financial plan, the town has set aside $171,100 to fund the development, which it has called "a quiet park with seating, native plantings, trees and open space."

The park's designs do not boast permanent structures or call for the use of asphalt because a Capital Regional District water main runs beneath the plot. This means the location of planted trees is also restricted.

The park's draft concept will be available online Nov. 15 prior to the open house, which is set for Sunday, Nov. 17 from 9 a.m. to noon at the site of the new park. The public is invited to share their thoughts in person or through View Royal's online survey.
