A fun filled month at Berwick is celebrated with a special New Year’s Eve dinner.

For many residents and staff at Berwick House and Berwick Royal Oak, the holiday season is truly the most wonderful time of the year. With a calendar full of festive activities and an atmosphere brimming with joy, residents are surrounded by the warmth and magic of the holidays.

Festivities kick-off in late November when residents and staff come together to 'deck the halls' and create a warm, festive atmosphere for the holiday season. From dazzling decorations to the inviting aroma of house-made apple cider, every detail is designed to evoke holiday cheer for residents and staff members alike!

“Some of our residents have local family outside of Berwick to enjoy the holidays with, and what happens here over the holiday season just adds to the fun,” says Amanda Guignion, General Manager of Berwick Royal Oak. “For others who may not have family close by, or at all, our December celebrations with the Berwick family mean a lot to them. Creating holiday memories and enjoying this wonderful time of year together is such a privilege. I feel so grateful to work here.”

An uplifting season for all

Kathy McAree, Community Relations Manager at Berwick Royal Oak, shares how her time at Berwick has transformed her own holiday experience. “Since beginning my Berwick journey, I have to say that I enjoy the holiday season so much more than I once did. I may be busier at Berwick, but it doesn’t feel stressful like December can be for many. We embrace the spirit of the season and join in the fun! As staff, we enjoy the holidays right alongside our residents,” she says.

From dressing in holiday finery for the residents' gala dinner to baking Christmas cookies with colleagues and residents, McAree says it’s “the most uplifting month of the year at Berwick.”

Building memories across generations

The holidays also highlight the unique intergenerational relationships nurtured at Berwick. Each year, kindergarten students from a local elementary school are paired with 'Berwick Royal Oak grandparents,' forging bonds through shared experiences. “I enjoy seeing the 'Berwick grandchildren' who visit during the holidays,” says resident Bobbi Johannessen, reflecting on the joy these friendships bring.

For resident Audrey Taylor, the festive atmosphere at Berwick rekindles fond memories. “The holidays at Berwick bring back memories and make me feel happier in such a festive atmosphere. We are very fortunate to have Christmas here at Berwick.”
