‘Working virtually is nothing new to us at MAC Renovations. We have clients in Japan, Italy and Hong Kong, and technology like video conferencing and our online project management system make it easy to stay connected,’ says Blaise McDonald.

While working on recent Shawnigan Lake home project, the MAC Renovation design and construction team met with both the clients and architect.

The twist?

The architect was in Prince George, one homeowner was in Calgary on business, and the other was in Courtenay. And MAC Renovations’ project manager? He was in the office in Victoria.

“Working virtually is nothing new to us at MAC Renovations,” says Blaise McDonald. “We have clients in Japan, Italy and Hong Kong, and technology like video conferencing and our online project management system make it easy to stay connected.”

Today, as you spend more time social isolating at home, it can be the perfect time to take advantage of that same technology to begin planning your dream home renovation or build.

“A major renovation can take three to six months to effectively design and plan. Today, we can get that started with a ‘virtual consultation’ – a chance for us to get to know the client and their project, and for them to learn a little more about MAC and our process,” Blaise says.

  1. Preparing for a virtual consultation. A preliminary phone call will alert homeowners to any information or materials they need to gather before the consultation, such as previous house plans and photos.
  2. Exploring the process virtually. The virtual consultation is a great time to review your budget, schedule and project goals. “We want to talk not only about what you want to do, but why you want to do it,” Blaise explains. It’s also a chance to explore the process of a renovation, which will vary according to the project scope. “Each client is different and each project is different, but all benefit from a well-thought-out, experienced approach.”
  3. Connecting couldn’t be easier. For homeowners, all that’s needed is a good wifi signal and a computer, tablet or smart phone to use video conferencing technology to have a no-obligation consultation with a MAC Renovations Project Manager. “The response from our out-of-town clients has always been really positive, so today, our in-town clients can take advantage of the same tools,” Blaise says.
  4. Following up & getting started. Following the virtual consultation, if you decide to move forward with your project, you’ll work closely with your MAC project manager, following the process every step of the way with the online BuilderTrend program, an all-in-one communication centre that lets MAC – and you! – digitally track your home renovation from start to finish.
