Saanich’s Sonia Solberg, Program Secretary, Parks, Recreation & Community Services, browses activities to add to her family’s Spring recreation wishlist ahead of registration, beginning Feb. 17.

Get Ready, Set and GO for Saanich Spring Registered Activities!

You asked and they answered: Starting this week, Saanich Recreation is making it easier to search, save and register for favourite activities.

As always, the spring registered activities include an array of popular options for all ages and interests, but what’s new is the ease of navigation when it comes to searching for those you want to register for, explains Sonia Solberg, Program Secretary, Parks, Recreation & Community Services.

The changes provide a full two weeks of planning time and ensure that the public has plenty of opportunity ahead of time to review the information and coordinate their selections with their personal schedules. This is even more important given that some activities can be affected in a changing and evolving public health environment with new protocols and safety measures.

“When someone comes to the site to see what’s happening and what’s available, the information will be current,” Sonia explains.

Need to kick-start those fitness goals, for example? Fine-tune your stroke with swimming lessons or get moving with an array of low-impact fitness classes offered across Saanich’s four recreation centres. Add variety to your yoga practice with Barre Yoga or incorporate strength training into your fitness routine with small group training or the new 20/20/20, combining dynamic stretching, light weight lifting and a deep therapeutic stretch.

Maybe this is the time to get the kids creative with music or art? You’ll find that too!

Beginning Feb. 3, view the spring registered activities at saanich.ca/active, save programs to your Wishlist, then return to register starting Feb. 17.
Beginning Feb. 3, view the spring registered activities at saanich.ca/active, save programs to your Wishlist, then return to register starting Feb. 17.

Here’s how it works:

  1. Search – Beginning Feb. 3, view the coming spring programs at saanich.ca/active. In addition to a more appealing presentation, the intuitive search function means that if you want to search for registered activities available for an eight-year-old on Thursdays, for example, you can apply those specific parameters, Sonia says.
  2. Save – See something you like? Simply click the “heart” icon to save that program to your wishlist.
  3. Register – Beginning Feb. 17, go back into your wishlist and move the items into your shopping cart, selecting from the drop-down menu the family member you’re registering, and you’re done! Best of all, this can all be done from the comfort of home.

Registered drop-in programs

In addition to registered activities, health protocols also require participants to sign-up for reserved drop-in sessions, which can be reserved as of 8 a.m. seven calendar days in advance.

Beyond reserved drop-in activities like the weight room, length swimming, skating and drop-in fitness classes, for example, options include outdoor and indoor youth options, such as games night, LGBTQ+ youth night and an outdoor club. These are free, but participants must reserve their spot.

“It’s been really important for Saanich to continue these activities in a safe manner to provide a safe space for youth to come together,” Sonia says.
