Every child deserves the opportunity to move, play and develop the confidence that comes with physical activity. That belief is at the heart of Pacific Institute for Sport Education’s Gift of Play and Gift of Potential campaign.
The PISE campaign aims to raise $500,000 to provide children and youth in Greater Victoria with access to high-quality physical literacy and youth training programs.
Thanks to Peninsula Co-op, which contributed $100,000 and established a donation matching campaign, every donation made will be doubled – creating an even greater impact in the lives of young people.
Building a healthier, more inclusive future
PISE works with more than 10,000 children each year, bringing physical literacy and fitness programs to schools and after-school programs. These initiatives are essential – not only for maintaining good health, but also for fostering resilience, confidence and friendships.
“Physical activity is more than just movement. It helps children build the foundation for lifelong health, social connections and even future opportunities in sport,” says Stacey Lund, Business Development Manager at PISE. “We are dedicated to ensuring every child – regardless of their background – has access to these essential programs.”
Funds from this campaign will go toward several key areas, including:
- Bringing physical literacy programs into schools, ensuring all children – regardless of socioeconomic background – can benefit.
- Scholarships for Canadian Sport School students and athletes training at PISE.
- Upgrading the Youth Performance Centre to provide better training facilities for young athletes.
- Supporting Indigenous and diverse youth with access to quality programming that fosters participation and inclusion.
- Expanding programs for children with disabilities, ensuring they have the staff and resources needed to thrive.
Every year, thanks to donor support, PISE provides more than 40 children from families in need with free access to summer camps. Additionally, more than 50 children with disabilities benefit from specialized programs designed to provide movement opportunities tailored to their needs.
“We work with kids of all abilities, ensuring that physical activity is accessible to everyone. The generosity of donors is what makes this possible,” Lund says.
How you can help
Peninsula Co-op’s matching campaign runs until March 31, but PISE will continue fundraising until they reach their $500,000 goal. Beyond donating, community members can support PISE by attending the Family Festival in May, becoming a member or joining a program, or cheering on the Camosun Chargers basketball and volleyball teams at their home games.
