When it comes to supporting young athletes and their families for the baseball season ahead, one local grocer has hit a home run.

Saanich's Thrifty Foods Quadra joined Lakehill Little League's opening day festivities with a hot dog lunch for approximately 400 young athletes and their families, accompanied by a $1,000 donation to the ball club.

“Supporting local organizations like Lakehill Little League is important to me. It contributes to the overall health and well-being of children in the neighbourhood, and I can see the impact it has on their lives,” says store manager Seth Gustavson.

Seth was joined by members of his management team  on-site, handling everything from setup to cooking and serving. “We prepared and helped serve the kids he adds.

Thrifty Foods has a longstanding tradition of community involvement and support. Their Community Action Fund supports various local initiatives, focusing on areas such as arts, education, environment, health, sports and youth.

“Each of our stores has strong ties to the communities we serve. We can have a tremendous impact on people's lives and we try to help with donations whenever we can," Gustavson says.

“I don't take it lightly being part of the community, it is important to support each other.”

This marks the third year of Thrifty Foods Quadra’s involvement with Lakehill Little League's opening day. “The first year we donated the food for opening day. Last year, the meat manager and I came out and volunteered alongside lake hill parents, it was a little crazy. It’s really cool to see everything Lake Hill Little League does to make opening day special for all the children involved, and it is nice to be a small part of the festivities. We hope to continue to build on our involvement for the years to come.”
