VicPD say they are looking for information about a “Grinch” in Victoria.

Just weeks before Christmas, the Salvation Army in the 2600-block of Quadra Street discovered a truck they parked was empty. There had been 10 bags of donated toys for children in need, now missing since Dec. 11.

“We are very saddened and disappointed by what’s happened,” Patricia Mamic, the public and government affairs director for the Victoria Salvation Army, said. “This is an example of what can happen when people are desperate and have a lack of options. We’re also disappointed that the toys donated to go to children may not be going to those children.”

The Salvation Army had received a total of 40 bags of donated toys for their annual drive at the Stan Hagen Centre for Families. The 10 stolen bags made up a quarter of the gifts in their toy shop.

“We still do have toys that we’re handing out. We will make sure everyone who comes through our doors does not leave empty-handed, but we’re not sure we’ll be able to reach our goal for the amount of toys we were hoping to give,” Mamic said.

Anyone interested in donating toys can drop them off at the Quadra and Hillside location in Victoria. Mamic said cash donations and gift cards are also welcome, especially since gift certificates are popular presents for youth and teens who are harder to shop for.

VicPD asks anyone with information about the theft to call 250-995-7654 or Crime Stoppers.
