Trevor Barry, who thanked voters for their support after winning 5,541 votes by playing his saxophone early Monday morning near Blanshard and West Saanich Road, said on Twitter that he is considering a run in 2022 after receiving several requests to do so again.

“Yes please,” he replied. But he also added that he needs a team of 25 (instead of 2.5), “capacity within my career, work/life/wellness,” and “permission from my wife/family!”
Persistence can certainly pay off. Rebecca Mersereau ran three times before winning an election, topping the polls with more than 18,000 votes.

Notably though, Barry did not include the need for election signs as one of his conditions for a future run. He specifically eschewed them in 2018, a point he stressed during his campaign, and after it, when he playfully reminded other candidates, that they had to spend their Sundays taking down their signs.

Barry is not the only one, who signalled intentions to run again.
Cory Montgomery, who run under United for Saanich, said the 2018 run was fun, adding that he is now “getting ready for next time.”
“You can’t lose, you meet more people, you learn about what the community wants,” he said. “That’s what the exciting part is.”
