Figures show a drop in the dollar value and number of new units approved for construction last year in Sidney.
The final building permit report for 2021 shows the total value of permits issued was $33.5 million, down from $74.53 million in 2020. Overall, Sidney issued various permits for a total of 83 units in 2021.
In 2020, Sidney issued an almost identical number of permits (193) for a total of 222 units.
That year marked a historic peak for new construction in the town, with the value of nearly $75 million nearly three times the 20-year annual average of just under $27.2 million.
Among the notable developments that received approval in the final months of 2021 was a planned four-storey, 36-unit multi-family condo building with underground parking in the 9500-block of Lochside Drive, opposite Tulista Park.
