Regional authorities are asking residents in several communities including Saanich to avoid entering the waters along multiple shorelines.
The Capital Regional District posted the advisories Saturday after heavy rain caused combined stormwater and wastewater overflows along some shorelines.

“As a result of these discharges, residents are advised to avoid entering the waters along the affected shorelines, as the wastewater may pose a health risk,” the CRD said in a release.
Affected shorelines run from Rutland Road in Oak Bay to Seaview Road in Saanich including Cadboro Bay. Other affected areas include the shoreline between Trafalgar Park and Radcliffe Lane including McNeill Bay in Oak Bay, and Fraser Street and Victoria View Road in Esquimalt.

It is not clear when the advisories will end, which appear common around this time of the year.
“As a precaution and in consultation with Island Health and the local municipalities, beaches within the affected areas will be posted with public health advisory signs until sample results indicate enterococci levels are below the 70CFU/100mL recreational limit,” the release said.
