RCMP are investigating after the discovery of a man's body near the Nanaimo Curling Centre yesterday.

Reserve Const. Gary O'Brien, Nanaimo RCMP spokesperson, said that police received a report Thursday, Sept. 12 and officers confirmed that the man was found deceased in a small forested area behind the curling centre, near railway tracks.

The body was discovered by a passerby at noon, noted a press release. The case has been deemed suspicious. The B.C. Coroners Service is on scene.

"The area has been closed off and it will remain closed while we have our forensic unit on site for the next foreseeable while," said O'Brien.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call Nanaimo RCMP's non-emergency line at 250-754-2345, citing file No. 2024-29983.
