Capital region directors push province for deer control

The Capital Regional District board is clear about government’s role in controlling urban deer populations. The CRD, in a motion passed Feb. 16, wants the province to manage the ungulate population – a request some directors aren’t confident is being addressed. Saanich Coun. Leif Wergeland says the board is going in circles with the province.“A number of us thought if you send (the recommendation for the Ungulate Management Plan) to the province, they’re just going to send it back again, but we’ll see what happens,” said Wegeland, who is on the CRD’s transportation and protective services committee.
