Individual suffered serious injuries, was rushed to hospital Monday morning

A service member of CFB Esquimalt was rushed to hospital Monday morning following an industrial accident at 443 Maritime Helicopter Squadron in Sidney.

Few details are available at this time, other than that the individual is being treated for serious injuries, but Base Commander Capt. (N) Steven Waddell has ordered an immediate investigation into the incident.

“Our sympathies and prayers are with the member and the family and I can assure them that the Canadian Armed Forces is committed to providing all the necessary support … during this exceptionally difficult time,” Waddell said in a statement.

According to a base spokesperson, military officials are working to support the accident victim and their family. A crisis team was also deployed to the squadron to assist members of the unit who played a role in assisting the victim.
