The City of Colwood is advising motorists to expect delays as BC Hydro performs work in the area of Sooke and Metchosin roads.

The work is crossing all five lanes of Sooke Road at the intersection as part of BC Hydro’s continuing installation of a hydro duct bank through Metchosin Road to Trout Lane. Contractors are also installing utility lines along Sooke Road between Colwood Crescent and Belmont Road.

Metchosin Road is down to single-lane alternating traffic between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. now until Jan. 14 and between Feb. 7 and 21, according to the city. Eastbound lanes will remain open during peak morning commute hours, while southbound lanes will remain open for afternoon peak hours.

Between Jan. 17 and Feb. 2, traffic on Metchosin Road at Sooke Road will be detoured overnight between 6 p.m. and 6 a.m., down Veterans Memorial Parkway and over to Wishart Road.

The city said traffic control personnel will be on site, and motorists and pedestrians are encouraged to use extra caution and to follow all signs and worker directions.
