Coun. Dean Murdock has assumed the vacant board seat for the Capital Regional District and Hospital District Board left by the recent death of Coun. Vic Derman.

Murdock has served as a Saanich councillor since 2008 and becomes one of 24 directors on the CRD board, replacing Derman, who served from 2005 to 2017.

“I hope to live up to the high standard Vic set,” Murdock said.

Saanich has the most seats on the CRD board as each municipality is awarded a director position for every 25,000 people.

Murdock was the next in line in 2014 election voting for Saanich’s CRD representation behind Couns. Susan Brice, Colin Plant, (Derman) and Judy Brownoff. Mayor Richard Atwell earned an automatic seat as mayor.

Saanich’s alternate directors, as appointed in 2014, are Couns. Haynes, Sanders and Wergeland.

The directors also sit as members of the Capital Regional Hospital District Board.
